It's possible to not bother with your identity.

Sometimes you dissociate from identity at all, like when you are focused on something.

Is it possible to do a switch without the added step of a tulpa being in control of the body

Kind of, yes. Like when you are doing things that are pretty automatic. Which applies probably to a lot more than we think it does. If you know about highway hypnosis, where you space out while driving and wind up getting somewhere without having really been thinking about it or paying attention, I think it is kind of adjacent to that.

What you want to switch with, when there is no additional identity?

Idk How to explain

But i read an article on switching

Idk how valid it is

And i dont have the link

Speaking of article do yall have an article/guide on that?

Yes, you can learn to dissociate from your body's senses and either go unconscious or immerse yourself in your mindscape. Just leaving the body there not doing anything beyond reflexes and functions like breathing.

You can also just go to sleep lol

8:12 PM
And from personal accounts that ive heard most alters start out as imaginary friends

Yup, I think of this as for fun and experimentation. Escapism is never a good idea.

8:14 PM
They said they were imaginary friends firsy
thonk 1
8:16 PM
Thats according to their account
8:16 PM
And alter systems seem to be more unstable than tulpa systems

Once again this is just from what ive seen

They're not here to ask about it... but that imaginary friend turned headmate sounds like accidental tulpamancy

berockly (TTG) 9/24/2021 8:23 PM
And i would say basing knowledge of DID or tulpamancy on the movie split is a horrible idea
8:23 PM

Yeah, don't get your understanding of DID from movies

8:23 PM
But what IS a headmate
8:25 PM
How do you define it
Avatar
Heck, I don't even know at this point
8:28 PM
A person concept in the brain with an identity, personality, and agency

Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 9/24/2021 8:32 PM
There's different types and levels of separation. But in my opinion the #1 defining thing that makes and host and tulpa not the same person is independent agency. The ability to think and act of one's own volition without being "parroted." That's also the distinction between a tulpa and an imaginary friend.

Hosts confirmed imaginary friends /j

Deleted User 9/24/2021 8:33 PM
Imaginary friends sometimes are perceived to have (illusion of) independent agency.
Avatar
In general it's hard to "prove" tulpas have independent agency
Avatar
Abvieon {Alex} 9/24/2021 8:35 PM
If you have an imaginary friend you might think "Hmm what would they say" and then they say exactly what you want them to. If you have a tulpa, they have more freedom and spontaneity than that. More "force" and conviction and self direction behind their thoughts.

I'd say that in case of tulpas, their will can be dissociated from your own. In case of imaginary friends of kids, it's not always the case.

It's hard to even really define what that means. I would say potentially is impossible to prove, at least not without being very very specific with all your term definitions.
8:37 PM
And then people will just argue those definitions until the end of time. 😏

At the end of the day, anything your tulpa does is something your brain did

Avatar
berockly (TTG) 9/24/2021 11:16 PM
I mean they are only bad depending on the way you look at them
Avatar
Ale𝕏andra 🍄🐈 9/24/2021 11:17 PM
How does the way you look at them determine if they are bad or not? Surely it depends on what they do/cause?
Avatar
berockly (TTG) 9/24/2021 11:19 PM
Both
11:19 PM
It depends on the persons view of them
11:19 PM
And
11:19 PM
The way they act

I don't think people viewing a tulpa as bad actually makes it bad.

Ale𝕏andra 🍄🐈 9/24/2021 11:22 PM
You might try asking the person in question what they think in inherent in tulpas that makes them bad.
11:23 PM
And then address each of their concerns specifically.

Even if you only found out about tulpas today, you could still ask someone why they think tulpas are inherently bad.

Ale𝕏andra 🍄🐈 9/24/2021 11:28 PM
In that situation, you might point out the differences between DID etc. and tulpamancy, especially the difference in intent and control, without blackouts or memory loss.
11:29 PM
Also, you might consider adding that the defining feature of DID isn't plurality; there's actually much more to it than that.
